A is for Alpaca

Alpaca are wonderful fiber animal originally found in the mountains of South America.  They are sweet, gentle and kind to the environment.  Their fiber is light, lofty and very warm.  Spinning alpaca fiber is a joy.

There are two types of alpaca: Huacaya and Suri.  Huacaya alpaca have a softer, fluffy look with a crimpy fiber.  The majority of alpaca are Huacaya.

Suri alpaca, have a long, lusterous, silky fiber.

My friends Beth and Kevin have recently purchased a herd of Suri alpacas.
They have launched a campaign to "Bring Home the Herd"  Click here to learn more about Suris and Old Cedar Knoll Farm Alpacas.   If you'd like to see photos of the very first cria (baby) born on September 24th click here.

Click here for details about the Howl-O-Ween contest ending October 30th.
